Exact Online is one of the most widely used online accounting packages in the Benelux, both by businesses and by accountancy firms that use it to enter their clients’ accounts.
A key feature is the bank link with automatic matching: payments and journal entries are largely matched automatically. Manual work is mainly required for transactions that fall outside this process, such as staff card expenditure.

How to link Exact Online to SimpledCard
- 1. Book a demo
We’ll show you how SimpledCard works with Exact Online, using your accounting set-up as a starting point.
- 2. Become a customer
Once the contract has been signed and the statutory KYC check has been completed, we’ll set up your account and you can order cards for your staff.
- 3. Activate the Exact integration
The integration is an add-on to your package. You authorise the connection using administrator rights within your own Exact Online environment; no additional Exact modules are required.
- 4. Set up the connection together
During a separate call as part of the onboarding process, we select the purchase ledger, set up the mapping of cost types, cost centres, cost objects, VAT and projects, and check the initial entries. The integration is usually up and running within about an hour.

- Is the Exact Online integration a genuine API integration or an export?
It is a direct integration that SimpledCard has built and maintains itself. There is no need to generate or import files; transactions are entered directly into your accounts.
- Does the integration also work for Belgian company accounts?
Yes, Exact Online is fully supported in both the Netherlands and Belgium.
- Is SimpledCard listed in the Exact App Center?
No, not at the moment. The integration works directly with Exact Online and is built, maintained and supported entirely by SimpledCard.
- How much does the Exact integration cost?
The accounting integrations are a paid add-on to your SimpledCard package. This keeps the basic package simple, and you only pay for the connection you use.
- Can a single invoice be split across multiple cost centres or VAT rates?
Yes. A payment or invoice can be split at line item level, with each line item having its own account, cost centre and VAT rate, so that everything is posted exactly as your accountant requires.
- How do you handle closed accounting periods?
The integration never opens a period that is already closed. If a payment falls in a closed period, the entry is automatically given a date in the first open period.
- When are transactions posted?
Only settled transactions. This prevents duplicate or missing entries when an amount changes between authorisation and settlement, for example due to an exchange rate.
- We use Exact Globe, is that an option too?
